Hi - I have a room available in a very spacious 2 bedroom apt in JP right near Stonybrook T, tennis courts, park, and community gardens. There is tons of common space, hardwood floors, fireplace, washer/dryer, back deck, wifi access, etc. The rent is $675/month plus shared utilities. Could be a summer sublet but it’s flexible and could go longer, too. Available June 1 or after. Please email lalmquist@gmail.com if interested!

Big changes are in the works for the Forest Hills neighborhood and business district. Come to the next in a series of open community meetings, Thursday May 31, from 6-9 PM, at the English High School Cafeteria.
According to the Boston Redevelopment Authority, which is leading the process, “The Forest Hills Improvement Initiative is a community based approach to improving and growing the Forest Hills Station area and planning for the sale and development of several MBTA owned parcels. The City of Boston will work in partnership with the MBTA, the Forest Hills Task Force and area residents, businesses, institutions, and organizations throughout the process.” The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council and other established community organizations also take part in this process.
While participation has centered on nearby residents, these plans have potential benefit to all of Jamaica Plain, and all are welcome at this meeting. Past meetings have been well attended, and have included lively discussion of transportation, affordable housing, retail, and green space dimensions of this planning initiative.
The meeting will take place in the school cafeteria and will include light supper and refreshments starting at 5:30. English High as at 144 McBride St (enter for the meeting on the Williams St side). There will be translation into Spanish (and into other languages if requested in advance to the BRA).
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the history and development needs of Jamaica Plain and meet new and old residents engaged in these issues.
You can learn more about the discussion and planing to date here, from the BRA’s web site, or you can also contact me (steve backman from the Neighborhood Council).

If you visited the Neighbors for Neighbors folks at the Wake Up The Earth Festival, you probably voted for the values that embody NFN as a community organization, and that you’d like to see steer it down the right path in the future. If you didn’t have a chance to do that this weekend, please choose 3 of the following words that speak to you (or make up your own) and send them along to Kerrin at news@neighborsforneighbors.org. We’ll compile all of these thoughts together and report back soon. We’ll also use this input to help guide future planning. Thanks for your thoughts!

Great news! Neighbors for Neighbors just got word that we’ve obtained 501(c)3 status as a non-profit organization. A major benefit of 501(c)3 status is that all contributions to NFN are now tax-deductible. So, now you have one more reason to click that PayPal link!
