Campus Initiative Program Coordinator at Boston Cares
Organization Description:
Boston Cares isa Civic Action Center of the Hands on Network andorganizes and leads team-oriented volunteer opportunities and services in and around Boston that have a positive impact on individuals and communities. We operate with the following values in mind:

Summary of Duties:
The Hands On Campaign challenges us to reach out to organizations across the nation to identify and mobilize volunteers to become involved in service activities. One of the objectives of the Campaign, begun in early 2007, is to mobilize 10,000 college and university students as Student Volunteer Leaders. Piloted in 2007 in Seattle and Boston, the program will continue to recruit Student Volunteer Leaders to organize activities that engage students in meaningful service.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact for students who are interested in becoming volunteers or in leading volunteer efforts on campuses in the Greater Boston area.
- Work with the current campus contacts to recruit students for the program- this may include: scheduling and attending meetings with campus representatives; holding information sessions for students interested in the program, attending events on campus as appropriate.
- Coordinate a city-wide Campus Day of Service (CDOS) in September 2008 in Boston engaging between 5-8 campuses with 50-100 students per campus.
- Provide training and technical assistance to all students involved in the Student Volunteer Leader Campaign on effective volunteer leadership, using Hands On Network developed volunteer leader curricula.
- Supporting student leaders in the identification and the development of quaility volunteer projects that address community needs.
- Maintain volunteer database, and track volunteer activities and program statistics
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and conduct annual volunteer survey.
- Be a member of the Boston Cares staff team of 12; 4 others of whom are also AmeriCorps members.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a social science related field.
- Have some volunteer management, community service, marketing or related work experience.
- Be motivated with sense of teamwork.
- Possess excellent communication, organizational and multitasking skills.
- Have an ability and desire to work with people from various backgrounds and/or limited English.
- Be available to start work in September or October 2007

Education award of $4725 upon successful completion of a full term

A weekly stipend of $13,000. paid twice a month ($1083/month before taxes)
